Walking discipleship

I had a stop off with my Christian friends Martha and Phil, and as we walked this morning we talked about something on all of our hearts, how to disciple others in a natural way when we have such busy lives.

Martha and Phil have started something they call walking discipleship and the principle is quite simple, as you walk and talk with friends you are able to share, to teach, to exhort and encourage, often this is a two way process; it doesn’t need a grand church programme but simply people who are intentionally discipling as they walk together.

Perhaps it is time to deprogramatise the churches, and reposition believers to become mentors, peers of friends, of seekers, fellow believers, those in need. As I think about the amount of energy it takes from people with busy lives to join the next church driven course, perhaps the take up  might be greater if we equipped one another to take a walk with and share our faith journey with others.

I am reminded just how Jesus walked with his disciples on the Emmaus road…
