As part of my last Sunday as pastor at Kelso Baptist Church, we had a BBQ and a camp fire at midgeland. Since we had all had fairly substantial morning worship on looking at the Holy Spirit as ‘paracletos’ the afternoon outdoor session took on a more informal structure and I began by reading the Pentecost passage from Acts 2, and then asked the gathering of around twenty people to stay in their current informal discussion groups and chat about two things:
1. Each of you please talk to each other about a miracle in your life from God, think of something in the last week, if nothing, then the past month, or the past year, etc.
2. Now I would like you guys to chat to each other about where you feel the Spirit is leading you on this Pentecost afternoon.
After about fifteen minutes discussion we all sang amazing grace.
This was not a worship service, but something different, in this liminal outdoor space I just gave people a wee nudge to consider the leading of the Spirit. In my own wee group, the discussion was amazing filled with ‘everyday’ miracles and honest talk of where we felt the Spirit was leading us as individuals…
