Forest chaplaincy

This doesn’t need to be in the forest, but it does need to be outdoors. Do you have a dog? (I don’t) but if you do perhaps you walk your dog in the same outdoor spaces and places every day. If so and you have a heart for outdoor ministry, then consider praying before every trip out with ‘woof‘, that God might soften your heart, that he might prepare you to be a vessel for his love and grace, as He leads you.

If you are a pastor or a church leader, then spend a good few months modeling this approach (allowing the Lord to show you the way), but find somewhere set-aside, perhaps a thin place you and others are drawn to (if you are a church leader you don’t need a dog as an excuse, when people ask, just say what you do, and that you are out walking and praying as a part of your daily routine).

Background: This is something which began for me out of a personal need for healing prayer time in the outdoors; ‘just me and God’, or so I thought, but then over the period of almost daily trips out over a year, the Lord led me to some amazing encounters, some were deeply personal answers to prayer, but in tandom, friendships were built and a natural sharing of faith began with others who recognised need for the peace of this amazing old forest (no I’m not telling you where). I started to recognise friends who all needed these thin spaces, but who also needed to learn of the unknown God made known, and over time trust has been built built and spiritual conversations had, and then one day I realised something simple, I had unwittingly become a forest pastor!
